Canines and felines have been living side by side in Africa for hundreds of thousands of years, and they've never really gotten along-not even amongst themselves. Throw the hyena into the mix and they're all nightmare neighbours stealing from each other; harassing each other; eating each other's young. Avoidance might be the only way to stay alive. Cats, dogs and the wild-card hyena, all jousting in a free for all for survival. In this classic natural history film, the competition for survival-during the good times and the bad-unfolds in the plains of southern Africa. And it's not just a "cat eat dog" world here in the grasslands: lions eat cheetahs; jackals eat lion cubs; hyenas eat whatever they can get their hands on. And yet, one predator trumps them all. Weather is the age-old nemesis, storming through anything and anyone in its path. When drought wreaks havoc on the terrain, the competition gets even more fierce. We're hidden in the trees with the leopard, masked behind the brush with a lioness, roaming in packs with the dogs or speeding by with the cheetah, hunting with these predators means kill or be killed. It means eat quick or die trying. Hunger waits for no rain - whether you're a Big Cat or Wild Dog in Africa.
Nat Geo Wild is on Starhub Channel 413 and Singtel Channel 207.
