In the first 280 days of your life, you underwent a remarkable transformation: from just a single cell to over 100 trillion. This is the story of your metamorphosis as minute-by-minute, hour-by-hour cells had to move and organise, in the process making structures that would become blood and bone; heart and brain. You are the result of that nine month long gestation process; the most exquisite biological choreography found in nature.

Everything that happened there had profound effects on the creature you became - the way your cells divided, how they communicated, when hormones surged, even how tiny hairs beat in the womb, all shaped the rest of your life, long before you were even born.

The series comes in three parts; each following one of the three trimesters, zeroing in on the critical moments that defined us all: the moment your face forms, the first beat of your heart, or the day your nerves fire their first signals - and uses them as the springboard to a wonderful and surprising human stories that show how even a small change in the womb can have life-changing consequences later in life.

BBC Earth is on Starhub Channel 407.
