We may love our pet cats but how much do we really know about their lives? This fascinating film offers an intimate and revealing glimpse into the world of our closest feline friends.

There’s no denying we are obsessed with our cats. But have you ever wondered why your cat always lands on all fours? Why it purrs? And where it goes when it leaves the cat flap?

Following on from the success of Secret Life of Dogs, Secret Life of Cats follows the incredible story of a new-born kitten as it grows into a nimble athletic neighbourhood cat.

Using cutting edge natural history filming techniques, the programme reveals how a cat’s incredible super senses develop and how its amazing body takes shape.

The film also showcases cats of all shapes and sizes – from slinky Siamese that were bred to protect us to trusty tabbies bred to hunt out vermin.

Cats have an important emotional impact on their owners, and as well as examining the natural history of these popular pets, Secret Life of Cats features some incredible cats that have changed peoples’ lives.

BBC Earth is on Starhub Channel 407.
