We may think of our pets like another member of the family – but they exist in a secret world that we would hardly recognise. In this series, new filming techniques reveal our pets’ wild behaviour and natural abilities.

Just a small group of animals has the perfect natural characteristics needed to share our lives. Each is special – the cat is a solitary predator, the dog is a pack hunter, the horse a herd-dweller, while smaller pets are various prey.

Now, groundbreaking photographic techniques discover what makes these animals unique and reveals why this select group became human companions. HD spy cameras capture hidden moments of extraordinary behaviour, while thermal imaging, Schlieren photography and moving x-ray delve even deeper into their secret lives. Stabilised tracking-cams and onboard minicams turn our familiar world into one of revelation and surprises as we see the world from our pets’ eyes.

Popular, endearing and revelatory, Pets – Wild at Heart shows our closest animal companions in their true light.

BBC Earth is on Starhub Channel 407.
